Hyakume™
A free Touch Bar layout for MacBook Pros. Answer your AI agent's permission prompts right from the Touch Bar, and send parts of your screen straight to Claude or ChatGPT.
What it does

Swipe the bar sideways to see every key.
Named after the hundred-eyed yōkai of Japanese folklore, Hyakume (百目) turns your Touch Bar into a set of keys for working with AI, plus a few live readings.
- ✓ YES · ✓✓ ALWAYS · ✗ NO answer Claude Code and Codex CLI permission prompts in iTerm2 or Terminal. ALWAYS needs a press-and-hold, so a mis-tap can't grant a standing permission.
- ⌗→AI grabs part of the screen and pastes it into Claude or ChatGPT. + CHAT opens a new AI chat.
- CPU turns green, yellow or red with load. Trays hold your apps, memory, uptime, network speed, a focus timer, dark mode and Night Shift.
- esc stays on the Touch Bar automatically if your Mac has no physical Esc key.
AI keys, and how they stay safe
The YES, ALWAYS and NO keys read the terminal first. A key is pressed only if a real permission prompt is on screen, and only the exact option you asked for. If that option isn't there, nothing is pressed.
ALWAYS is a real standing permission in your agent, so save it for actions you'd approve every time. Hyakume doesn't press buttons inside the Claude or ChatGPT desktop apps, so these three keys work in terminals only.
Install in two minutes
- Install MTMR, the free open-source Touch Bar app Hyakume runs on (last updated 2020, still works). Drag it into Applications and open it once. On Apple silicon, macOS offers to install Rosetta 2 the first time; say yes. If macOS blocks MTMR, use the Open Anyway step below.
- Unzip Hyakume and open Install Hyakume.command. macOS blocks downloaded files the first time. On macOS 15 and later, click Done, then go to System Settings → Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway (it asks for your Mac password). On macOS 14 and earlier, right-click the file and choose Open (on macOS 12 the settings are in System Preferences → Security & Privacy).
- When macOS asks, allow MTMR under Accessibility, Screen Recording and Automation.
The installer backs up your current layout first and never uses your admin password. Uninstall Hyakume.command puts it back exactly as it was; if you've since switched to a layout of your own, it leaves that alone.
Privacy and limits
Everything runs on your Mac. The scripts make no network calls and collect nothing, and every script is short and readable.
Hyakume is for MacBook Pros with a Touch Bar only (2016 to 2022, 13, 15 and 16 inch, Intel and Apple silicon). Tested on macOS 15 (Sequoia); older versions that MTMR supports should work but haven't been tested.
Free, and yours
We work with AI agents all day, and approving their steps or feeding them a screenshot should take one tap. If you build with AI too, Hyakume is yours. Ideas for the layout are welcome at [email protected].
