HYAKUME™ — the hundred-eyed Touch Bar
Free from neverloggedoff.ca

Hyakume™ turns your MacBook Pro Touch Bar into a clean live status display with AI keys:

esc kept on the far left automatically if your Mac has no physical Esc key
⌘ APPS tray: ⌗→AI (screenshot straight into Claude or ChatGPT), + CHAT (new AI chat),
Finder, Safari, Terminal, Notes, Calendar, Activity Monitor, Settings
⌗ screenshot straight to your clipboard
CPU live processor load: green when calm, yellow when busy, red when maxed
✓ YES approve your AI agent's permission prompt once
✓✓ ALWAYS PRESS AND HOLD: approve it and let the agent stop asking for that kind of action
(a quick tap does nothing, so a mis-tap next to YES can't grant a standing permission)
  ✗ NO decline it
⚙ CTRL tray: memory and uptime, network speed, focus timer, dark mode, Night Shift, sleep screen
(the focus timer resets when a tray closes, so start it and leave the tray open)
plus play/pause, brightness, volume, battery and a 24-hour clock
◀ BACK the first button in each tray closes it (trays close by restarting MTMR)

AI KEYS: HOW THEY STAY SAFE
YES / ALWAYS / NO work with Claude Code and Codex CLI running in iTerm2 or Terminal.
Hyakume reads the front terminal first and presses a key ONLY if a real permission prompt is on screen.
It finds the option you asked for in the menu and sends exactly that; if it isn't there, nothing is pressed.
No prompt = nothing is typed; you get a small notice instead.
ALWAYS is a real standing permission inside your agent. Use it only for actions you'd approve every time.
Hyakume doesn't press buttons inside the Claude or ChatGPT desktop apps, so tap those on screen.

PERMISSIONS
Hyakume runs on MTMR, which needs to be allowed in System Settings → Privacy & Security:
  • Accessibility — so it can press keys and read the screen
  • Screen Recording — so ⌗ and ⌗→AI can capture app windows
  • Automation — for System Events, iTerm and Terminal, so the AI keys can type into them
macOS asks the first time. Say OK. If a key press is blocked, you get a notice telling you where to go.

WORKS ON
Every Touch Bar MacBook Pro, 2016 to 2022: 13", 15" and 16", Intel and Apple silicon.
Apple silicon Macs need Rosetta 2, because MTMR is an Intel app; macOS offers to install it the first time.
Tested on macOS 15 (Sequoia). Older versions that MTMR supports should work but haven't been tested.

INSTALL (2 minutes)
1. Install MTMR, the free open-source Touch Bar app Hyakume runs on:
https://github.com/Toxblh/MTMR/releases/latest (or, with Homebrew: brew install --cask mtmr)
Drag it into Applications and open it once. MTMR hasn't had a new release in a while, but it still works.
2. Open "Install Hyakume.command". macOS blocks it the first time because it's downloaded and not from the App Store:
   • macOS 15 and later: you'll see "Apple could not verify… is free of malware". Click Done, then go to
System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll down and click "Open Anyway" (it asks for your Mac password).
   • macOS 14 and earlier: right-click (Control-click) the file → Open → Open.
Terminal may also ask for access to your Downloads folder. Say OK.
"Uninstall Hyakume.command" needs the same "Open Anyway" step the first time you use it.
What the installer does: backs up your current MTMR layout (into ~/.hyakume, with a dated copy each time),
copies Hyakume's small scripts into the hidden ~/.hyakume folder, removes the "downloaded from the internet"
flag from those scripts only so the Touch Bar can run them, and switches MTMR to the Hyakume layout.
It never uses sudo, never changes system settings, and makes no network connections.

UNINSTALL
Open "Uninstall Hyakume.command". Your previous layout comes back.
If you had no layout before Hyakume, MTMR goes back to its default.
If you've since switched MTMR to a layout of your own, Uninstall leaves it alone and keeps any backups in
a "Hyakume layout backups" folder in your home folder. Your own MTMR layout is never deleted.

PRIVACY
Everything runs on your Mac. Hyakume's scripts make no network calls and collect nothing.
The GitHub link and the ◆ NLO button only open when you tap them.

MAKE IT YOURS
The scripts are short, plain and commented, and they're installed in the hidden ~/.hyakume folder.
Change the tray apps by editing ~/Library/Application Support/MTMR/items.json.
Note: running the installer again replaces that file with a fresh Hyakume layout, so keep a copy of your edits.
